Via del Borgo 9 forms part of a group of listed buildings at the 'borgo' (hill village) of Tavernelle, in North West Tuscany in the Appenine mountains. The village is very friendly and welcoming, with a newly-opened pizzeria just round the corner from the house! There is a small grocer’s just up the road (limited opening hours), bread deliveries daily by van (except Sundays), also various fruit and vegetable vans deliver weekly. A river runs through the village which is suitable for bathing and boasts a lovingly restored mill. There is a charming little RC church in the borgo. There are restaurants in nearby villages. There are several seaside resorts within easy reach by car, including Forte dei Marmi, Marina di Massa, Marina di Carrara. Easy to visit are the medieval walled town of Lucca (Puccini’s birthplace) and La Spezia, from which you can take various boat trips - one particular excursion will take you to the Cinque Terre – cliff side resorts, a kind of National Trust area which is very beautiful. The area is ideal for those who love walking in the countryside amidst peaceful, unspoilt surroundings. Media Release - Holidays With A Conscience (PDF) |
